Healthier Catering Award launches at Trafford Centre

The award is a three tier award linked to the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme which all Greater Manchester Local Authorities are committed to.

Each tier of the award aims to provide customers opportunities to make a healthier choice that is lower in fat, sugar and salt, with the opportunity to select smaller portions and be able to access more fruit and vegetables.

In addition the ‘achievement’ criterion includes the promotion of healthier choices and supports breast feeding mothers.

The ‘excellence’ award also includes showing a commitment to recycle, implementing the alcohol challenge 25, promoting sustainability and working towards providing allergen information to customers.

There are 6 local authorities that have agreed to roll out the award from April 2013. These include Bolton, Bury, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.

Businesses that have piloted the award have welcomed the opportunity to achieve an award and attract new customers. There are 7 pilot caterers that have been invited to receive their award at the Trafford Centre.
